Types of Policy under Auto Insurance
Policy A
Covers liability of vehicle owner for plying of the vehicle in a public place. The
liability under the Act comprises of:
Liability to members of public for physical injury/death
Property damage
Liability under Workmen’s Compensation Act, if any
Legal costs and expenses to defend liability suits
Policy B
Covers liability as described under Policy A above and ‘Own Damage’
– Accidental damages to vehicle itself as under:
Loss or damage to vehicle and/or its accessories by:
Fire, explosion, self ignition or lightening
Burglary, housebreaking or theft
Riot and strikes
Earthquake (Fire and Shock)
Flood, typhoon, hurricane, storm, tempest, cyclone, hailstorm, frost
Accidental external means
Malicious act
Terrorist activity
While in transit by road, rail, inland waterways, lift, elevator or air
Towing charges/cost of protection up to a pre-determined limit.
Emergency repairs up to a pre-determined limit (if cost of repairs submitted immediately
are reasonable and customary)
