Quantum Optima - Value Added Savings Account for NRIs

A unique value added savings account from ICICI Bank that allows you to earn the interest rates of a fixed deposit* on your savings account. Under this scheme, any amount in excess of INR 20,000 from the savings account is automatically swept into an INR fixed deposit account. The fixed deposit is created in units of INR 5,000 and will be for a minimum period of one year. The best part is that you can withdraw the entire amount in the fixed deposit anytime by issuing a cheque or through ATM while in India. Quantum Optima is available for NRE and NRO savings account. Eligibility

Cluster Deposits

Fixed Deposits are held in units of Re. 1. This allows you to encash part of the deposit amount (in multiples of Re. 1) before the maturity date, while the remaining units continue to earn you interest at the contract rate. Therefore in an emergency, you can withdraw the exact amount you need to minimise the interest loss. There is no limit on the number of units, or the frequency at which you can withdraw units during the tenure of the deposit.

FEATURES

  1. Funds in these accounts are not repatriable. Only the interest effective from financial year 1.4.96 and onwards, is fully repatriable. In order to do so, the account holder needs the following:
    • Form RPI, with the certification from a Chartered Accountant
    • Undertaking from the account holder, certified by a Chartered Accountant
    • Form A2
  2. Legitimate dues in rupees, of the account holder can be deposited in the account.
  3. Tax is deducted at source on the interest earned at a flat rate of 30%.
  4. Nomination facilities are available for these accounts.
  5. These accounts can be held as joint accounts with other NRIs or other resident Indians.
  6. For NRO fixed deposits, the interest rate is the same as that for domestic deposits

What is Citibank Rupee Checking Account

  • The Citibank Rupee Checking Account is a 'Rupee Savings Account' held at a branch (of your choice) in India. You can transfer money to this account in U.S $ or any other foreign currency, or in Indian Rupees.

  • The balance in the account earns interest at 4% per annum as a regular Savings Account (governed by Reserve Bank of India)

  • The funds in the NRE Rupee Checking Account are repatriable; which means the balance in the account can be converted into U.S $ or any other foreign currency whenever you want. Interest earned in an NRO Account is also repatriable.

  • To open the Account you need only U.S.$ 1000 or equivalent in foreign currency.On an ongoing basis you need to maintain a monthly average balance of only U.S.$ 1000 equivalent in Rupees.

How your Family in India can access money

  • You can designate a Family member in India to get an ATM card (called a mandate ATM card) and check book. You can set a limit on the amount of money your family member can withdraw per month with the ATM card.
  • Your Family member can withdraw cash at any of the 296 ATM centers in 47 cities in India
  • Your Family member can also withdraw cash using the check book at the Citibank branch where your Account is held.
  • In case your Family resides in any city other than the 47 cities where the ATMs are located, your Family member can deposit the Citibank check in their local bank Account. The funds will be credited to their local bank account after the check gets cleared.
  • Your Family member can also write a check directly payable to any beneficiary of their choice.
