Category A ISP licence for LancoHYDERABAD, April 14 LANCO Net Ltd, a part of Lanco group, has been awarded category A license for its ISP operations by the Department of Telecommunications. This licence permits the company to provide Internet access and other value-added services across the country. According to a company press release here on Friday, Lanco Net is currently setting up its infrastructure for launching Internet services all over India. Internet services from the company will be available in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Calcutta, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Pune by May and the rest of the country in the next three months.

Lanco Net launches real estate siteHYDERABAD, April 7 LANCO Net Ltd, belonging to the Lanco group, has launched www.propertybuilder.com, a real estate site primarily targeted at people interesting in buying, selling, leasing and renting property. The Web site also features sections for architects, interior decorators, civil engineers and property developers, among others. It was thrown open to users here on Friday by Mr. Brian Hadfield, President of Unisys. The Lanco Net Vice-President, E-strategies, Mr. U. Lakshminarayana, said that the site was conceived based on a country-wide market research covering seven major cities - Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Pune. In a couple of months, a total of 60 cities would be covered in the country. He told newspersons that Lanco Net would be shortly tying up with a couple of institutions to provide a single-window access to a host of real estate services. The site would also provide general and city-specific news, city directory, advanced search for classifieds, experts to answer queries in legal, architecture, vaastu and interior decoration besides a specific forum for builders to showcase their projects. Lanco Global MoU with Unisys: Lanco Global Systems Ltd (LGS) has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Unisys to target specific business opportunities for Unisys's solutions and services. The services of Unisys, which operates in over 100 countries, include financial services, transportation, communications and publishing. LGS is providing solutions to customers in specific industry segments such as banking, insurance, telecom and the Government, both for the India and overseas markets. Under the MoU, Unisys will work with LGS to provide the necessary pre-sales, marketing and pricing support, apart from providing information on their products, solutions and services. LGS will set up the infrastructure and dedicated team for development, customisation and implementation of solutions to support Unisys domestic as well as its overseas operations. Unisys will be the technology partner for the Lanco group, including Lanco Net. Lanco group plans $100-m IT pushHYDERABAD, March 16 THE Lanco group, which made its IT foray last year by setting up Lanco Solutions Inc in the US, has unveiled investment plans of over $100 millions in the IT business in the next one year. The expansion plans include setting up operations in Japan, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore and New Zealand. A joint venture in Malaysia is on the cards with the second largest Malaysian telecom company. Also lined up are joint ventures with Hexasoft in Australia and New Zealand, a full-fledged development centre in Hyderabad, and India development centres in Bangalore and Chennai. The company aims to be a category-A Internet service provider in 20 cities across the country and set up industry-specific Web portals. Unveiling the plans here on Thursday, the Lanco Group Chairman, Mr. L. Rajagopal, said the group had already invested around $10 millions in Lanco Solutions Inc and would be pumping in another $30 millions during the next six months. Lanco Global Systems Ltd (LGS), the offshore development company of Lanco Solutions, and Lanco Net Ltd (LNL), the category-A ISP, would receive investments of around $30 millions. The group was also planning investments of around $30 millions for expanding into Japan, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore and New Zealand. Lanco has already set up operations in the US, UK and India. Further, the group has drawn up plans for tapping both the domestic and American capital markets to fund the expansion. Lanco Global would go public during the third week of April and Lanco Net during July, while Lanco Solutions would tap the US market next year for listing on Nasdaq, Mr. Rajagopal said. Having already established premium partnerships with world leaders such as IBM and Sun, Lanco Solutions has notched up revenues of $10 millions during the last year. ``We aim to achieve a turnover of $50 millions within the next one year,'' said Mr. John Kolster, Head of Business, Lanco Solutions. According to Mr. P.V. Subrahmanyam, CEO, LGS, the focus of the company would be on providing software services, products and solutions. The thrust areas include banking, finance & insurance, telecom, energy, healthcare and defence. Lanco Net is gearing up to emerge as an integrated Internet access and content provider, according to the LNL Vice-President, Mr. Shekhar V. Patankar. In the first phase, ISP services would be introduced in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Pune by May and plans were on the anvil to expand the reach to another 20 centres over the next eight months. The portals division of LNL, which has launched two interactive Web sites, would be launching two more Web sites shortly, said the LNL Vice-President, Mr. Lakshmi Narayana.
Friday, April 21, 2000 Lanco Net shares for Lanco Ind shareholdersHYDERABAD, April 20 THE board of directors of Lanco Net Ltd (LNL), a closely-held information technology company belonging to the Hyderabad-based Lanco group, has decided to make a firm allotment of its shares to the shareholders of Lanco Industries Ltd (LIL), a listed company in the group. One Lanco Net share would be allotted for every four shares of Lanco Industries, according to the LNL Board's decision here on Wednesday. However, the firm allotment price of the shares would be 10 per cent above the offer price in the proposed public issue of Lanco Net. Lanco Net is going in for a public issue in June this year at a premium of Rs. 9 per share on the face value of Re. 1. As against the offer price of Rs. 10 per share in the public issue, the LIL shareholders would get LNL shares at Rs. 11 per share on a firm allotment basis. The board of Lanco Industries, which also met here on Wednesday, has fixed the record date as June 15 for the purpose of ascertaining the list of shareholders eligible for the firm allotment of LNL shares. Lanco group has presence in diverse areas such as pig iron, cement, constructions, castings, power and information technology. Lanco Net is currently focussing on e-commerce, portals and Internet service provider (ISP) operations. The company has recently launched three vertical portals and proposes to launch a generic portal shortly. It has also obtained the category-A licence for its ISP operations from the Department of Telecommunications.

The company recently commissioned its second portal IndiaBudgets.com, a one-stop site for all issues relating to the budgets. This site plans to cover State budgets and extend this up to the municipal level. Lanco Net plans to launch a third vertical portal PropertyBuilder.com, a site that goes far beyond addressing the basic needs of anyone who is looking for buying, selling, renting and leasing of real estate. It plans to follow this up with hulaboo.com, an interactive generic portal.
