Interview With Mr.Ashok Atluri, Managing Director - Zen Technologies Limited

Why are you going for a par issue?

We, at this time want to get the awareness of the pubic. However strong we are, we will not be recognized unless we are listed on the stock exchange. With this issue, we want to get that done and we have a plan of going for another issue where in we shall go for the premium justified at that time.

What kind of support do you have in terms of equity participation?

We have the support of IDBI with an equity participation of around Rs.100 lakhs in the issue and about 20% post issue stake. Also we have the grant from Department of Industrial Scientific Research (DISR). This shows their confidence in the company and the promoters.

What are your products ?

We have three products - Zen Sats, iSats and TacSim. Out of which, Zen Sats is already in the market and the other two are yet to be established in the market for which we are going for the IPO.

The clients are happy with our Zen Sats and had suggested that Zen Sats is just sufficient for the basic training and not for the advanced training facilities. So this interaction had prompted us to come out with the new products.

Can you explain the products?

Zen Sat is the product consisting of a compressor, a gun, a resting stool ( which can be adjusted depending on the height required) and a printer (to get the movements physically). When a trainee pulls the trigger, a huge sound is produced to create the virtual environment. Also a laser beam is sent to the computer which represents the movement of the gun, his holding mistakes and the displacement in missing the target.  

I Sats is also indoor but instead of a screen based target we have large screen and a target on it, which moves and has to be shot. Depending on the target hit, the performance can be analyzed. In this we can train upto 6 trainees.

In TacSim, we create a virtual environment like a forest and cross firing. On monitor we can have targets of any size from 0.1 size to 25 meters unlike in Sats.  we can crease an hijacking situation. 

For which instruments is your   package useful?

Our packages can be implemented on any instrument like AK 47, 0.303 Rifle and even on a normal pistol. It will also work on any other prior prescribed model. 

What are the advantages of your products?

There are various advantages with our products: 15-50% of training costs are reduced, Reduces wear & tear of equipment. It also has the facility of training time, by which the training can be carried on indoor, round the clock 24 hours a day, 30 days a month and 365 days a year. This replaces the range training and people need not go to the ground for getting trained. Ammunition is also not required. The performance of the shooter can also be measured depending on the laser beams sent by the machine at the trigger time and this graph shows the movement of his hands and his hit target. By studying the graph, the instructor or trainer can analyze the performance of the shooter which normally takes 3 years for him to understand. Through this, the instructor and the trainee can fare well in a period of time.

Where are you expecting demand from ?

SVP National Academy, which trains IPS officers, is our customer. These officials who get trained, keep visiting the center to be abreast with the developments. Keeping in touch with these officials helps us in getting orders. Delhi Armed Police, which is considered as one of the best in the world, has integrated Zen Sats. We have also sold 2000 Sats to overseas.

Who are your overseas Clients?

We have agents in Malaysia and Indonesia who deal with their country's security agencies.

Who are your competitors?

We have the monopoly for the products. As of today, there are competitors neither in India nor in the rest of world. 

What are the delegatory problems that arise since you will be selling your products to the government agencies?

In each state there are different agencies like Bihar Home Guards, Bihar Military force, AP Grey Hounds, AP Police etc. They have their own funds and are the decision making authority in this regard. Hence there are no administrative problems.

Why are you setting up an office in London and not in US or elsewhere?

Most of the Middle East and African politicians and beauracrats shop in London. We see a lot of potential in these countries than any other country due to various reasons. As of now we are setting up our office in UK, probably in the long term, we may look at other countries also.

How do you foresee your company's future?

Well, the revenues what we are getting is just a top of iceberg and we have a lot of potential in the future. We have 30% profit margin, which is sustainable.

Say any terrorist approaches you for the product, what would you do?

We definitely see the client background and since this is a product catering to very restricted users, we do not offer the products to the destructive minds.
