Linking PAN with Aadhaar card is now important for all the PAN cardholders. It would aid in addressing multiple problems, the most significant of which is having multiple PAN cards issued in the same name. The income tax form would not be generated if the linking has not been done. On the other hand, if the PAN card link to Aadhar card has been done, then the user can get his/her summarized details of the taxes levied. Both the documents are unique and aid for identification proof, which also work as an essential role in registration and verification purpose.
In the last budget, the Government of India has made it mandatory for every individual to have Aadhar card and Pan card link done. Most importantly, while filing Income Tax Return, getting Aadhar card link to Pan card done has become a necessity, otherwise you won’t be able to file the return. Also, to carry out a bank transaction above Rs. 50,000, the linking has been made compulsory.
If you are wondering how to link Pan card with Aadhar card, the process of linking has now been made easy by the government, which have provided various ways, including both the online and offline methods. Moreover, the deadline for this has also been extended to 30th September 2019.
While the offline method is more time consuming, it is better to follow the online procedures in order to have Pan card link with Aadhar card done.
How to link PAN Card with Aadhaar Card?
Linking of Aadhaar and PAN card through e-Filing website
Linking PAN card with Aadhaar card can be done easily by logging to the Income Tax e-Filing portal. Generally, there are two ways of linking through Income Tax portal:
1. Without logging in your account
Step 1: Visit www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in and on the left, click on “Link Aadhaar”.
Step 2: Now, enter the required details, including PAN, Aadhaar Number, name as per Aadhaar, etc.
Step 3: Select/tick “I have the only year of birth in Aadhaar Card” only if the dates are not being mentioned in your Aadhaar card.
Step 4: Now, again select/tick “I agree to validate my Aadhaar details with UIDAI”.
Step 5: Enter the code as shown in the image and finally click on “Link Aadhaar”.
Note: Aadhaar OTP will be required if any minor mismatch is found in Aadhaar Name. Before submitting the details, check that the date of birth and gender are exactly the same as in PAN and Aadhaar card. Rarely, when the name in PAN and Aadhaar is totally different, then the linking won’t be successful and the assessee has to change the name in PAN or Aadhaar database.
2. By logging in your account
Step 1: Registered taxpayers have to log in to the e-Filing portal of the Income Tax Department by entering the User ID and password. If not registered, register yourself first and then proceed.
Step 2: As you log in to the site, a pop-up will appear automatically, which would ask to link your PAN with Aadhaar card. If the pop-up doesn’t appear, go to the blue tab on the top bar named “Profile Settings” and select “Link Aadhaar”.
Step 3: At the time of registration on the e-Filing portal, details like name, date of birth and gender will automatically be mentioned on the screen. Now, match the details as mentioned in your Aadhaar card.
Step 4: If the details are verified, enter your 12 digits Aadhaar number and Captcha Code and click on “Link Now”.
Step 5: Now, a pop-up message will show that “Aadhaar-PAN linking is completed successfully”.
Linking of Aadhaar and PAN Card via SMS
The easiest and the most convenient way to get Aadhar card PAN card link done is via SMS. For linking, send an SMS either to 567678 or 56161 from your registered mobile number in the following format: UIDPAN
Now, if the Aadhar card link with PAN card is not done before the deadline, the government will invalidate those PAN cards. Going through the importance and easy procedures, it had been made clear that for easy going and to continue using the existing PAN card, linking it to Aadhaar card is a must.
